Voodoo Visionary is an improvisational funk/dance band from Atlanta, GA. Deep grooving bass, funky ever-changing drum beats, smooth rhythm lines, and screaming guitar solos come together to create a sound the group calls psychofunk. Influenced by a wide array of artists such as the Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, Galactic, The New Mastersounds, STS9, Gov’t Mule, Medeski Martin and Wood, and others, Voodoo Visionary has a uniquely blended sound that’s guaranteed to put the boogie in your shoes.
The collective entity that is The Groove Orient does not want you to change who you are. We simply want to come together and celebrate the officious sound. Paul Terry wants his drumming to rattle your bones, and inspire your psych. David Vanegas wants his afro-cuban beats to impregnate your inner being. David "Drillbit" Incorvaia wants his guitar playing to make your brain quake against your skull, and infiltrate your deepest insecurities. Chuck Magid wants his guitar playing not to melt your face, but to combust your face instantaneously while your heart tears with his lyrical persuasion. Tommy Shugart wants his keyboard touch to resonate within your soul, and his songwriting to question your personal integrity. Harry Ong wants his etherial aura to inspire only the best of vibes, and for his singing to make the hairs fall off your neck.
Story Of A Life-
"A fun hybrid of rock, funk, jazz, prog & more"- based in Atlanta, GA. Specializing in less than obvious covers and like minded originals.
The roots of "SOAL" date back to 1997 in Athens, GA. Thor (drums) & Sean (guitar) had a chance meeting thanks to an ad in the local paper "The Flagpole" which set them on a musical adventure that continues to this day. They played with various people in the late 90s and even recorded an albums worth of tunes (their "Basement Tapes") and then fell out of touch for ten years. Shortly after Sean parted ways with the band he was in during the mid 2000s Thor found Sean online and the musical adventure started back up in 2009. Another chance meeting and the timing was perfect! Thor and Sean have played on and off as a duo for what seems forever, pretty much. The list of bassists that have auditioned or played with them has varied over the years. They finally found the right one in late 2013 so expect musical mayhem in 2014!
